Press card for Olena Mudra

This is the story of Olena Mudra, who just wanted to be able to continue her journalistic work but ended up becoming a member of the Danish Union.
Olena Mudra, a Ukrainian journalist from Uzhhorod in Zakarpattia, conducts investigations in the environmental field. Most recently, as an independent journalist, she has been involved in a campaign to protect against the construction of hundreds of windmills by private companies in the high mountain protected areas of the Carpathian Mountains.
At the end of 2023, it was time for Olena to renew her press card. However, due to internal problems with some representatives of the Independent Media Trade Union, she was unable to get a new press card for safe and proper work.
“…I need a press card, first of all, as a tool of protection in critical situations during my professional activities. Moreover, I am very responsible for the standards of the profession, because I sincerely believe that compliance with them is important for the safety of journalists and building the trust of the audience!” says Olena.
Ms. Mudra turned to RE:Cover Ukraine for help. She was already well known in the organization as a competent specialist, so there was no reason to refuse. In turn, Morten Hansen, a member of the organization, explained the situation to Tine Johansen, president of The Danish Union of Journalists – Media & Communications, who not only agreed to help, but also called it an honor for the community.
In such a difficult way, but still with a happy ending, Olena Mudra received her journalist’s press card and became a part of the RE:Charge mentor program initiated by RE:Cover Ukraine: a Peer-to-Peer Journalism Project.
