Covering the Restoration

We aim to create a network of reporters from Ukraine and the countries that will provide funding for reconstruction and have already succeeded in organizing the pilot seminar with that purpose in mind.

During the two-day event participants and speakers discussed the challenges that the Ukrainian media community faces under war conditions, drew an accurate picture of the restoration process, got the motivation to work on publications and learned new Artificial Intelligence tools that can be used in cross-border media projects.

13 Ukrainian and 12 foreign media professionals joined our pilot seminar. We plan to expand our activities in building cross-border cooperation between representatives of countries that will provide funding for reconstruction and regions that will receive that support.

The programme consisted of such panels:

  • Investigative reporter Yurii Nikolov emphasized what focal points are important in the coverage of war and corruption for Ukrainian journalists and those who are doing publications from abroad. He also explained why we need weapons now: for the restoration in the future;
  • Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Oleksandra Azarkhina spoke about the government’s new approaches to restoration and explained why it is important for communities to initiate projects;
  • Roman Danilenkov, co-founder of the Nakypilo Media Group and representative of the Recovery Window Network, presented the research conducted by Let’s Data and Democratic Initiatives Foundation;
  • Dietrich Treis, CEO at UIFK-AGRO LLC, shared the experience of agricultural companies during the war and the vision of their role in restoration;
  • BIHUS.Info journalist Nataliya Lazarovych introduced the participants to the results of investigations on restoration in de-occupied cities;
  • Slovak data journalist Adriana Homolova talked about how to research EU public tenders;
  • Mykhailo Koltsov, a World Bank consultant in cyber security and data analysis, gave a short tour of how to use AI as efficiently as possible.
